Unfortunately, it turns out my bonus was prior to tax. Which cuts it down somewhat, but that's understandable. Still, it's a very nice little blob of cash.

Working like stink has meant that card-sending is a little late this year. Some went out a couple days ago, others are going today. If belated, I apologise.

Someone sent me a card, not because it's Christmas, not for the New Year or Solstice or anything like that. They sent me a sekrit card just because I was blue and they wanted to cheer me up.

So, whoever my mysterious cheer-up fairy is, thanks! That was super sweet. :)

The week between Christmas and New Year's is traditionally the lowest-traffic week of the year for my site, and I'm gonna be out of town anyway, so I thought I might try something a little different this year. Here's a teaser for my idea:

I've already got the basic idea for the story and will hopefully start working on it before we drive down to Maryland (one advantage of driving down is I can actually bring my big Cintiq with me) for the holiday. Of course, going over my outline and idea list, this might end up being MORE work than the usual QC strips >.<

So uh I no promises yet I guess, but hopefully I won't puss out and will actually get this done.

this week in planning

11:39am 21/12/2009
So I'm hosting Christmas this year. Time to start cooking and cleaning. And shopping.

Also, I've just looked at the gaps in the station schedule. Predictably, most of them (for this week anyway) are on Christmas eve and day. That doesn't include the sports engineering slots that are not yet filled.

In other news, I signed up for that ballet class and wonder if I should sign up in advance for the latin ballroom class. In the meantime, I'm trying to get my dad to sign up for a class of his choosing. I'm also considering getting him a cell phone for Christmas. All with the general idea of getting him out of the house more.

To bring this back around, dad's the reason mom suggested having Christmas at my house. She knows he wouldn't go to Cousin I's house (he'd originally offered to host), and we'd have to borrow his car to get anywhere else, so this is a combination of bringing the gathering to him and compelling his attendance.

mood: exhausted
I keep meaning to write about these things, and I keep not doing it due to busy or tired or work or something. So I'm making a list and checking it twice in the hopes that at some point in the near future I will write about these things properly.

Wicked (book vs musical - fight!)
Swell Season concert
Great Big Sea concert
Avatar
dinner at Olivars
dinner at Poppy
socialness with various friends
An Education
Amelia
Men Who Stare at Goats

There's probably more, but that is what's coming to mind at the moment.

Avatar. IMAX. 3-D.

Accept no substitute!!

In a nutshell, simple and predictable plot, but who the f*ck cares, because it is beautiful and amazing and compelling and after it's over you're exhausted because you feel like you've lived the movie, not just watched it. Also the first live action movie where the CGI characters are just as real and far more compelling than the human ones.

I'm TOTALLY going to see it again. Mr. Cameron, my hat's off to you sir!

Last chance Monster Mash?
  mamishka

07:07pm 19/12/2009

mood: curious
So I'm heading to the East Coast in early January which means that there are only two weekends left in which I could ostensibly throw a Monster Mash before I go - the weekend of the 26th and 27th and the weekend of the 2nd and 3rd.

Does anybody want to make some Monsters before I go? Otherwise there won't be another Monster Mash* until I get back in March or so, save for the Monster Mash I'll be doing on in Boston.

If you wanna make monsters with me, call out now and pick a date or forever hold your peace ... or something. ;)

* Of course anyone can make their own monsters any time they want to, but there won't be an official Mimi Monster Mash till I get back. ;)

I try to have a Buddhist attitude about my experiences, good and bad. But sometimes when a good one comes along with another person, the Buddhist attitude gets challenged. And by challenged, I mean that "Meet me in the ring, you wuss!" WWF-style challenge. But it's all good.

Regarding the bit in Scots-Gaelic: Càite or "Càit" is not "Kate", as I've seen a few guess so far.

The line is repeated in English when Jeremy's on the beach. There's no important information in Scots-Gaelic that isn't delivered in English, we promise.

FRIEND-O CUT and other things~
  monstersexual

05:03pm 18/12/2009

Doing a slight friends cut. Just...TOO MANY JOURNALS on my f-list. I've lost interest in really checking LJ just because there's too many journals to read a day. I removed/will be removing people who's journals I tend to skip over. Now, I dont mean that in a "I dont give a shit about you" way xD It's more I either didnt know you well enough when you added me so I feel awkward commenting on personal affairs OR we became friends through a specific fandom and I'm just NOT as into it as I used to be.
SOOOO yeah, dont be offended if you were removed WE CAN STILL BE FRANDS and all that, and you're welcome to comment on my public entries/stalk me elsewhere/whatever. I plan on making more entries public on this thing anyway, sooo YEAH

and for the love of -GOD- do not send me a private message whining about being removed. I will flat out ignore it. I DONT GOT TIME FOR THAT SHIT YO.

I should probably point out that I'm very hard to befriend over the internet. I have to say that the whole thing with Renard was a freak occurrence xD One I'm very GLAD happend, but he's the first true-blue best buddy (and romantic partner, duh) I've made online. But a lot of that was him being very persistent with "TALK TO ME!!!1!1!" when we were first getting to know each other and I gave in because I found him interesting and charming. Or something. But yeah, POINT IS that just usually doesn't happen. Don't take it personally.

I know I kind of MAKE it hard to befriend me, and I have to apologize for that. I know a lot of people have put a lot of effort forth to get to know me/be friends, and I haven't done the same in return. I'M NOT TRYING TO BE A BITCH, HONEST. I'm just a bit of an introvert (online anyway, I'm quite social IRL when I'm not busy) and I don't like having too many long-distance friendships because I find it to be a bit of a bummer, and I'm AWFUL at keeping in contact with people over long distances. Always have been. What I LIKE and what you can really expect from me is casual contact through comments/notes/e-mail (In all honestly I'm not crazy about IM sevices, makes me anxious) and what not and then meeting up at cons and the like to hang out once in a while. YEP.

I am feeling very insecure today - low and lonely, abandoned and forgotten. If you have the time and inclination, I could really use some gestures of love, affection, or just some virtual pats to help me feel less alone and unloved.
